1. Jitu Rai wins bronze at ISSF World Cup


i. Ace Indian shooter Jitu Rai on 12 April 2015 won a bronze medal in the 10m air pistol event at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup in Changwon, South Korea.
ii. Rai won the bronze medal after he scored 181.1 points in the final and had missed out for the gold medal shoot-out by 0.4 points.

1. India to chair 9th IRENA meet in Abu Dhabi
i. India has been designated to chair the ninth meeting of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Council. The meeting is scheduled to be held in June in Abu Dhabi.
ii. India is a founder Member of the IRENA. The body is an intergovernmental organisation that supports countries in their transition to a sustainable energy future.

Important Updates On10th April 2015

1. EPFO suspends Rs 1,000 minimum monthly pension scheme
i. Retirement fund body EPFO has suspended the Rs 1,000 minimum monthly pension scheme from this month, a decision which will hit about 32 lakh pensioners.
ii. The scheme was launched with effect from September 2014, hiking the pension amount to a flat Rs 1,000 per month for those who were getting lower amount earlier.
iii. With the suspension of the scheme, the beneficiaries will get pension at earlier rates.

1. Moody's raises India outlook to 'positive', edges toward ratings upgrade
i. Global ratings agency Moody’s reaffirmed India’s rating at Baa3 but raised the rating outlook to ‘Positive’ from "Stable", a step closer to an upgrade of the credit rating, as it expects actions by policymakers to lift the country's economic growth.
ii. According to Moody's the policymakers are establishing a framework that will allow the country's growth to continue to outperform that of its peers over the medium-term and improve India's macro-economic, infrastructure and institutional profile.

1. SBI, ICICI, HDFC Bank heed Raghuram Rajan's call, cut base rate


i. State Bank of India was the first off the block to impress the regulator by reducing its base rate, forcing private sector peers HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank to follow suit as they took heed of RBI governor Raghuram Rajan's stern message to ensure transmission of monetary policies.
ii. State Bank of India lowered its base rate by a token 15 basis points — from 10% to 9.85%. HDFC Bank lowered its base rate by 15 bps to 9.85%, while ICICI Bank cut it by 25 bps to 9.75%, the lowest in the industry now.

1. RBI keeps Key Rates unchanged
i. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) kept the repo rate unchanged at 7.5% in its monetary policy review. Along market expectations, Raghuram Rajan also kept the Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) at 4%.
ii. Rajan kept policy rate unchanged awaiting clarity on impact of unseasonal rains on food inflation even as he wanted banks to pass on benefits of previous two rate cuts.

Different types of NBFCs: 

There are different categories of NBFC's operating in India under the supervisory control of RBI. 

They are: 

1. Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs) 
2. Residuary Non-banking Finance companies(RNBCs). 
3. Miscellaneous Non-Banking Finance Companies (MNBCs) and 

Residuary Non-Banking Company is a class of NBFC, which is a company and has as its principal business the receiving of deposits, under any scheme or arrangement or in any other manner and not being Investment, Leasing, Hire-Purchase, Loan Company. These companies are required to maintain investments as per directions of RBI, in addition to liquid assets. The functioning of these companies is different from those of NBFCs in terms of method of mobilization of deposits and requirement of deployment of depositors' funds. Peerless Financial Company is the example of RNBCs.
